In Honor of Lexi’s Dixieland Vixen11/24/08 – 11/30/18
Last November, we lost our beloved Corgi, Vixen, to an aggressive cancer that came out of nowhere, taking her life quickly but unexpectedly and much too soon. Vixen was a part of our family for 10 years, living life with an incredible joy and energy that could never be replaced. In honor of Vixen’s memory, I am walking for the Denver Dumb Friends League 26th Annual Furry Scurry on my daughter’s birthday, who loves the DDFL but will be walking in spirit in NYC.
Our first experience with this amazing shelter came from a random Thursday in September 2017 while my daughter was on vacation. She was browsing the DDFL website and stumbled upon a small kitten that looked very similar to our family Siamese, Isis. She convinced me to head over after work, and as soon as we held him in our arms, we knew he was meant for our home. Shy and timid at first, Osiris is now the head of the household and makes us laugh with his half-mustached Snowshoe face.
Next came Coco Chanel, a Black Mouth Cur mix we adopted last December. On a random trip to buy cat food at Petco, we stumbled upon who would soon be the newest member of our family. Scared, thin, but sweeter than honey – we knew we had to take Coco home and give her the love she deserved. It was as if Vixen herself sent this dog to us, knowing that we would provide her the love and care her previous home could not.
I am proud to support the Denver Dumb Friends League and walk to raise money for an organization that gives second chances to homeless pets and horses that otherwise would not have the opportunity to find happiness again.
