About Us

dog in shelter

Founded in 1910, our organization was named after a London, England, animal welfare society called "Our Dumb Friends League." In those days, the term "dumb" was widely used to refer to animals because they lacked the power of human speech.

Today, the Dumb Friends League is the largest community-based animal welfare organization in the Rocky Mountain region—providing a strong and steadfast voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.

  • Your donations help relinquished pets find new homes, and lost pets find comfort and safety at our shelters.
  • Your donations help provide medical treatment, behavior programs and foster care to homeless pets and horses so they can become the best possible candidates for adoption.
  • Your donations also help us prevent animal mistreatment and neglect, teach children about kindness to animals and responsible pet care, and provide mobile spay/neuter programs to help reduce pet overpopulation.

In fiscal year 2017:

pets and horses were saved
surgeries were performed
animal-welfare cases were investigated
