Cooper jumps into his new family’s hearts

Hold after hold expired on sweet Moses, a 2-year-old Australian cattle dog while he was at the Dumb Friends League Leslie A. Malone Center. Some people were reluctant to adopt using the virtual adoptions process, and others were not interested after learning that Moses had a few behavior issues. More often than not, though, things work out just like they’re supposed to, and pets end up exactly where they’re supposed to be in their forever homes with their new families, just like Moses.

Join us in changing the lives of rescued dogs

Every day, we make choices; some large, some small, some life-changing. For 102 dogs, including five litters of puppies, suffering in unimaginable conditions, the determination of eight organizations that came together and rescued them was the difference between life and death. It was the difference between hope and despair.

A grim scene awaited teams when they arrived at the house outside of Mesita, CO. For seven intense hours, they rescued injured and sick dogs, unsocialized dogs and dogs in filthy metal cages, kennels and crates that were too small and without ventilation in the hot summer heat. The dogs are currently being cared for by animal welfare organizations across the state with 46 of the unhealthiest animals being nurtured at the League.

These animals need our support and we need you to help them have better lives and become the best versions of themselves.

Don’t wait for a disaster to make a plan

Pets aren’t like family. They are family. And because disasters can happen any time and with little warning, the best thing you can do—for you and your pets—is to be prepared. Do you have a plan for your pet in case of an emergency? If not, learn what to do before, during and after a disaster strikes. And, if you do have a plan, it’s always a good idea to do a sanity check every now and again.

Fun fact

Did you know that some of our staff favorite pets are also our longest stay animals? Some pets tail wag their way into our hearts—especially those who are at the shelter longer than others. These heart stealers could be goof balls or lovers of constant pets or maybe they are full of happiness and boundless energy. Read more about some of our staff favorites … and maybe find your new companion!
