Tales for Tails @ Harmony 1.29.22
Harmony Equine Center

What is Tales for Tails at Harmony Equine Center?

Tales for Tails is an opportunity for students (1st grade - high school) to practice their reading skills in a judgement-free zone while also helping horses, ponies, mules, and donkeys at our shelter get the socialization they need. This 1 hour program includes a lesson about Dumb Friends League, tips for safely interacting with the equines, a brief tour, and 20-25 minutes of reading time. Experienced and enthusiastic staff and volunteers will guide your child through this interactive program.

What should my child bring?

Please bring your completed and signed waiver with you at drop off, as this is required for participation in Tales for Tails.  Students must bring their own book. Students must wear closed toed shoes and wear a mask.

Do you allow for early drop-off or late pick up?

Parents or guardians must sign students in and out each session.  Sorry, we cannot accommodate early drop-off or late pick up. Late pick-up after 11:10am will be charged $1/minute.

Why do I need to sign a media waiver?

We might take pictures throughout the event to use in various Dumb Friends League media publications. A media waiver is not required for participation, however your child may need to sit out of certain group pictures if you choose not to complete one.

Why does volunteering cost money?

Your registration fee enables us to cover the cost of staffing, supplies, insurance, and materials used in Tales for Tails, allowing more resources and donated dollars to be utilized for the homeless pets in our care.

Can I transfer my program date or get a refund if I can't attend my scheduled date?

Unfortunately, due to limited staffing and resources, all registrations are final and we are not able to offer refunds or transfers.

What other details do I need to know?

Registrations and waivers are required for participation in Tales for Tails. While we try our best to work with every animal lover, we may not be able to accommodate children with severe cat allergies or special needs. In these cases, please contact us before registering to discuss.

We are working hard to ensure every participant's safety and have implemented strict requirements in order to do so.  Please review the following COVID protocols before attending the Tales for Tails program:

  • Masks are required
  • If, on the day of the program, your child or anyone residing in the same household feels ill, has a fever, or any cold/flu sypmtoms do not attend the program. Please email Lauren Pipis at lpipis@ddfl.org to let us know your child will not be attending.

Please register each child individually, in separate transactions.  Due to staffing and resources, all registrations are final.
